Car Vandals Flip Smart Cars

They are calling this the urban version of cow tipping.  Four Smart cars were flipped on Monday in San Francisco, California during a vandalism spree.  The Smart cars were all located in an apartment complex.  Thankfully, no one suffered an injury.

Police spokesman Gordon Shyy stated that at 1 in the morning the first car was found turned on its roof. 10 minutes later a second car turned on its side was spotted a few blocks away.  Shortly after, at 1:30 a.m., the third flipped smart car was discovered.  The final car vandalized and flipped was not located until 9:00 a.m.

Each small, lightweight vehicles had shattered windows and body damage.  Police are looking for multiple suspects who wore black hooded sweatshirts and were spotted in the area at the time of the destruction.  Police spokesman Gordon Shyy stated that the culprits would face felony vandalism charges.

There are two theories as to what may have prompted the vandalism.  The first theory is that it was a prank.  The second theory is that this is another episode in escalating tensions among some residents who blame the tech industry for rising rents and cost of living.

One victim of the car flipped stated to reporters “it’s a bummer. I’m sure hoping it’s just a prank and not those who are trying to make a bigger statement in regards to the gentrification in the city.”  Many San Francisco residents feel the same way and hope this vandalism is not the start of a new trend.
