Some struggled to get to the shore Memorial Day Weekend, as a result of a dump truck running off the garden state parkway.  A construction dump truck suddenly swerved, bounced off a guardrail, spun and then plunged through the guardrail into the bay below.  A construction worker working on the bridge and a crane operator jumped into the water to try and help the driver, who was eventually taken to the hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.  The accident, which happened just after 2:30 p.m. on Friday the 23rd, shut down the southbound lane of the parkway for nearly a half hour.
